The news “Conquering China one viral video at a time” was published on the website of Sydney Morning Herald. It described that an American girl named Jessica who taught English to Chinese viewers in Mandarin on Youtube. The popular show called OMG!Meiyu was produced by the voive of America which is the official external broadcast arm of the US federal government.
A video talking about Jessica’s teaching details was placed at the head of the news and people can click it into the video page. According to the theory put forward by Meikel, G, convergence is one of the most significant characteristics of new media. What’s more, automation, personalization and participation are three central dimensions of online news. This new article is a typical example to demonstrate this theory system because of the combination of video and photographs approaches. About the video placed before the body, in my opinion, it is a little inconvenient because you need to leave this page to another. What’s more, you have to stand a 15-second long advertisement about Honden.
A question sentence was used as the opening of the news, which attracted the audience’s eye successfully. It asked “What is the English word for that gunky yellowish stuff in the corner of her eyes when she wakes up in the morning” and it caused the interest in reading and inspired reading desire from readers.
The body of the news is normal and large amounts of quotes are used by the writer, which make the news embody a humorous atmosphere. A photo blow, placed in the middle of the news, showing funny faces made by Jessica, enhances the humorous emotion as well.
Anyway, it is a funny article and it reflects the main attributes of online media.
In nowadays, the internet provides us with more approaches to almost anything especially information. Also it can help the audiences learn knowledge in a more effectice way.We need to take advantage of this.

Hi I am Derek in your class!
ReplyDeleteYes I think in this new digital era, everyone has a chance to shine, even sometimes you doesn't want to become famous. Anyone can use their phone to capture whatever they want. This remains me Andy Warhol's famous quote in 1968 : "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."
It is so funny that the girl will teach stuff like "you have a booger" because i'm sure that is not what traditional English courses teach haha. But that is a very smart way of becoming popular through a viral video.
